Located in Nang Loeng where the classic charm of Bangkok still stands,a modest shophouse has undergone a bold transformation. Once a utilitarian retail space, it is now a striking home office designed in the brutalist style for an anonymous design studio.

At the heart of this renovation is to integrate the aesthetic of raw materiality with the building’s existing structure, crafting a new spatial identity that feels both grounded and expressive. The design celebrates concrete in its most honest form—textured, unfinished, and unapologetically solid—balanced by warm wooden elements that soften the visual weight and introduce a sense of livability.

This project is more than a renovation, it reimagines the shophouse not as a relic of the past, but as a viable, vibrant structure for contemporary life. By seamlessly integrating work and home, old and new, raw and refined, the design proposes a new typology for city living: adaptive, authentic, and architecturally expressive.

In the layered streetscape of Nang Loeng, this brutalist retreat stands not in contrast, but in conversation—with its neighborhood, its history, and the people who now call it home.
